Reason for Participating in Economic Fuel:
Start-up costs for a technology based business are high, and the Economic Fuel competition offered an opportunity to overcome this hurdle while also providing an opportunity for Humboldt Cartography to further develop our business plan and map out our long-term and short-term business goals.
Advice for Future Competitors:
A solid business concept that will evolve into a foundation for a new business is paramount. Starting a business can be a time consuming and daunting experience. It is helpful to learn from other businesses by reviewing successful business plans, marketing strategies, and business structures. By learning from others, the path toward beginning your own business may be illuminated.
Most Valuable Lesson Learned from Writing the Business Plan:
As a business with multiple partners, it was sometimes a challenge to converge on unified business goals. In developing the business plan we had the opportunity to work through those challenges. The development of the business plan enabled us to consider short and long-term strategies and foresee potential challenges.
